Even though I stopped freelancing 1.5 years ago I am still haunted from time to time by old freelance clients.  For the most part I don’t mind, it’s good to do a little extra work and catch up with the good people from my past.  But there is one client.  The one client that single-handedly drove me from freelancing.  The client that gave me panic attacks and sleepless nights and almost...

I have been watching the Bachelor/Bachelorette for years only so I can be in on the jokes mentioned in the countless hysterical review blogs that are strewn about the internet.  Like this one.  And as an aside, ‘Courtney’ the ‘bad’ girl… well I think I’d actually get along with her in real life because she’s right, the rest of the girls are complete bores...

I remember when I was young there was a Kevin Bacon movie with this really intense scene when his wife is giving birth and she may or may not make it and she is criminally adorable and this song is in the background and it’s so beautiful. Anyone remember this movie? This Woman’s Work by Kate Bush on Grooveshark

Last night my boyfriend and I went to First Ave for our early valentines day celebration - to see ‘The Darkness’ because if we had ‘a song’, which we don’t, it would be ‘I believe in a thing called love’.  After last night, ‘I believe in a thing called love’ still firmly remains in the ‘not-technically-our-song’ category as...

This is the third kickstarter project I’ve ‘backed’.  I can’t believe he’s raised over a million dollars, crazy.  So, now I sit and wait for my beautiful dock to arrive… whenever that may be :)

Ira Glass joins Dan Savage on the savage lovecast.  Damn this union is blowing my mind.  Ira Glass!  You are so talented!  Not only do you produce the greatest show on public radio but you give smart, thoughtful, informed sex advice.  Just when I thought I couldn’t be anymore impressed by you… http://www.thestranger.com/SavageLovePodcast/archives/2012/01/31/savage-love-episode-276

had I known part of my post about the book, “Death on The Barrens” would be reposted in the form of a review (like, say here: NorthAtlantic  Books -or- here: Random House) I would have been more articulate.  Like maybe I would have said this: I am crazy about survivalist books; Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, Alive, etc… Death on the Barrens is just as captivating a read. Six men...

– Martha Stewart (via beenthinking) I’m not sure if it’s because she makes the greatest macaroni and cheese on earth or if it’s because she’s a strong successful woman and there still aren’t enough of them out there but I’m a hage Martha Stewart fan and if she ever...

Imposter Syndrome
I suffer from this… at least every time I start a new job I do, it is terrifying: Research that began in 1978 with the work of psychotherapists Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes found that many women with notable achievements also had high levels of self-doubt. This deep lack of confidence—which couldn’t be equated with anxiety or other disorders—appeared to involve a deep...

pre-new-years-resolution festivities
I, like most everyone else, try to start the new years on a healthy note… exercise more, eat better etc.  Though my resolutions (yeah I make resolutions) usually consist of travel destinations and creative feats like novel writing, personal design assignments and photography submissions.  We’re spending this holiday week up north, we had some visitors for the past couple days in which...

audio books review
I couple years ago I went from being a total bookworm to not reading at all.  I don’t know what happened but I couldn’t get myself to pick up a book.  And this year I discovered the audio book (thank you Audible) and it’s re-ignited my love of reading - or more correctly being read to.  Here are the books I’ve had the pleasure to listen to this year in order of best to...

I just bought these four 12” x 18” prints made by Family Tree Design in Nashville.  They are crazy adorable aren’t they?  My holiday present to myself I guess.

470-466 (Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums of all time)...
470.  R.E.M. Document - This record starts out pretty mellow, pretty subdued… I can understand from the start why this band never had a number one hit but I don’t mean that as an insult.  They’ve got a really distinct sound above and beyond Michael Stipe’s voice.  You can tell from the music alone what band you are listening to and that’s awesome.  But there...

tonight I cooked!
I made my first ever slow cooker meal tonight thanks to Martha Stewart.  It’s so simple and lovely and maybe one of the nicest homemade chicken broths I’ve ever tasted.  Added bonus?  There are naturally almost no calories in this.  Unfortunatly I made a meal that could feed a medium sized family.  Recipe here

475-471 (Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums of all time)...
475.  Bruce Springsteen: Tunnel of Love - I am a huge Springsteen fan.  A common thing I catch myself saying is, “I love seventies Bruce and nineties Bruce but eighties Bruce is crap”.  Tunnel of love is from 1987, I wonder if I will be swallowing my words as I look at the playlist and see “One Step Up” and know that that song kicks ass and it’s from the eighties so,...

480-476 (Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums of all time)
480.  George Michael:  Faith - Man I wasn’t looking forward to this album, I didn’t even like “Faith”  back in the day when it came out but on re-listening to it… wow, there are some killer harmonies it’s a nice little song.  Father Figure has too much of eighties synth sound for me.  Easy listening music with racy lyrics - this doesn’t do anything for...

I am without a doubt dating the worlds most polite, thoughtful man.  Sometimes it’s like he arrived here in a time machine from the days when chivalry were the norm. Where a man wouldn’t think twice about throwing his coat over a puddle so the women wouldn’t get her feet wet.   And I think to myself, “…where did he get this from?” And then a conversation like...
